Vertical Poverty Revisited: Immigrants in Toronto’s High-Rise Private Rental Housing

Building upon the the dataset generated for the United
Way of Greater Toronto’s Vertical Poverty report, this
paper examines the experience of immigrants in theprivate high-rise stock in Toronto’s inner suburbs.
Research indicates that this housing stock plays acritical role as a supplier of affordable housing for
immigrants in one of Canada’s largest gateway cities;
also notes that better integration of housing andimmigration/ settlement policies and services arerequired to increase social cohesion within thesecommunities and to support better settlement and socialintegration.
