2012 HSC Regeneration Forum Case Study: When the ‘code red’ went out in Hamilton in 2010, the City and senior community leaders took notice. There were clear signs that health, social and economic outcomes varied widely among neighbourhoods. But how best to address these disparities between the haves and the have-nots? The City created a Neighbourhood Development Strategy that focused on engaging the community and collaborating through the ABCD model of community development. This grass roots approach - while only recently launched - holds the promise of transformational change in target neighbourhoods by aligning mutual priorities and finding synergies for regeneration.
