Strengthening social housing communities

Social housing communities in Ontario are home to more vulnerable residents than ever before. These tenants may be experiencing challenges related to aging, addictions and mental health, or any other situation that makes it difficult to maintain their tenancy. At the same time, the majority of housing providers are not funded to deliver any support services. The result: unsupported tenancies that can have serious consequences for staff, neighbouring residents, and tenants themselves. This report outlines the steps that must be taken to address the challenge of unsupported tenancies, such as making supports in housing part of the core provincial budget and increasing collaboration between funding and delivery bodies. By highlighting successful initiatives across the province and providing detailed recommendations, the report provides a framework to ensuring that all tenants are able to enjoy a secure home in a healthy community.
